Cotton Gin
Moden day Cotton Gin
The way the modern cotton gin works is the same way it worked when it was first invented. First they have to get the matured cotton from the fields. Then they put it in the gin to separate the seeds from actual cotton.
This invention made our everyday lives much easier because we can have cotton clothing and other products made of coton much faster. We have factories with large machines to make the cotton.
In the mid-1880s Robert Munger of Texas developed "system ginning," a process by which seeded cotton was fed continuously into multiple gins stands, from which the fiber was immediately pressed and baled. Munger's system effectively ended the era of plantation gins and small cotton-gin makers and merchants. The modern cotton ginning process has continued in Georgia and the Southeast and can also be found in the major cotton producing areas of the southwestern United States and overseas.
Now, almost every person has clothing made of cotton. We just think of it as something we have and it will always be around. Back when it was scarce people thought of it as something valuable. Although it wasn’t a cash crop, it was still very useful and if they didn’t have it, then their everyday life would be completely different. Down the road it did turn into a cash crop.
Today in this country cotton is so important because we use it for clothing, towels, and other things we use in our everyday live. Without it today, we wouldn’t have as much cotton clothing, factories the make cotton, and that means less jobs available.
